ATTENTION DIVERS - Es Castell is also a great base for divers as it is just an easy 10 mn drive to S'Algar with its popular and respected diving center - S'Algar Diving and the nearby underwater caves systems on the south east coast at Cap D'en Font.
Our Tip S'Algar is itself a rather "faceless" purpose built tourist center built on Lava rock with little character and little in the way of places to go in the evening. Stay at Es Castell and have the best of both worlds. Sagitarius 18 provides a great base for divers.
Overview
Es Castell, previously named Villa Carlos, is full of history and charm. One of the best locations on the island for summer evenings and luch time meals in the town or down in the delightful harbour. The town's fishing harbour - Cales Fonts has become a little haven of restaurants and bars (no loud music ) favoured by locals and tourists alike. A truely genuine atmosphere not found in pure tourist locations and which attracts people from their beach resorts from all over the island. Founded in Georgian times as a military town this influence can be seen in the town's architecture and layout. Es Castell is now the fashional place for locals to live and this all adds up to makesthis an great place to base your stay.
Es Castell has eveything convievable thing you need within walking distance in the town and the excellent large Euroski supermarket at San Luis is just a 10mn drive away.
The two fishing harbours Cales Corb and Cales Fonts define the character of this town providing delightful water side promenades day or evening strolls. With fine bars and restaurants along the waterside and in the town's little side streets. Good selection of shops, mini supermarkets, banks(inc ATMs), bars and restaurants within a few minutes walk of our Holiday Homes. And of course cosmopolitan Mahon is also close by.

There are childrens play area in the town square and the local park. There are plenty of sports facilities nearby. Sailing for is available in the nearby watersports centres of Fornells or S'Algar and golf in Son Parc is just 10-15 mins away.
WALKING and CYCLING Set in beautiful countryside there are walks starting just outside the resort along winding walled tracks or along to Cales Coves( Cove bay). Close to Cala D'en Porter are a lot of open air prehistoric sites, with undeground caves which give you a real sense of life all those years ago.
SEA KAYAK There are three ways to see an island. From the Air, from the Land and from the Sea! A great way to see the coast, and a lot less than hiring a yacht for day, is from a sea kayak. Available for departure at nearby Punta Prima and in Es Grau.
HARBOUR BOAT TRIPs from the Cala Fons or from a selection of bigger operators in Mahon harbour are glass bottom boats that will show your the harbour areas from the sea.
CRICKET yes you read right, Menorca cricket club - There are regular fixtures throughout the summer and visitors are always welcome.
SCUBA DIVING With its underwater caves and coral encrusted rock formations, Menorca is recognised as one of the most spectacular diving locations in the Mediteranean. Es Castell has a lot to offer and with Mahon ( can be walked on foot 35minutes or regular Bus or Taxi 5€) is a great location for evenings. Away from the harbour in the side streets there are music bars and clubs for the younger at heart.

Located in huge spectacular caves 25m above the sea at the entrance to Cala en Porter bay.
Cova d´en Xoroi
A double bonus. Undoubtedly the most dramatic nightspot on the island is Cova d'en Xoroi at Cala en Porter. Set high in the rocks, it's a cave bar with fantastic sea views by day. From 19:00 the music is soothing ambient sounds to watch the sunsets by and after 21:00-dawn a disco with one of the most original locations and atmospheres with famous guest DJs.

Mahon ( Mao )
There is a lovely Mediterranean atmosphere in the town with bustling pavement cafes, marvellous fruit and fish markets with a maze of narrow cobble streets with architecture and many reminders of its Georgian past. In addition to the traditional the town offers a myriad of stylish shops and bars. There is a seemingly never ending array of cafes, bars and restaurants lining the whole length of the harbour offering all types of ambience or cuisine including the more traditional Menorcan dishes.

Alaior
Is a great town for wandering early or late evenings when the heat of sun is not around. The "third" capital of the island and a cultural centre. Alaior has an evening market town The old town is very pretty and makes a great change to the beach, with a good mix of little shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. And some great hand made ice cream parlours! Childrens playground on the pretty town square (next to ice cream cafes!)
Owners Tip:Alaior is home to the Pons Quitana shoe factory shop. An name unknown in the UK because most of its high quality leather shoes are exported to France and Germany. At the factory shop you will get heavily reduced prices.
