Menorca Beaches

Due to their geological origins many of Menorcas beaches (very common on the south coast) have gently sloping beaches falling into the sea, making the waters rock free and shallow for many, many metres out. Ideal for children and snorkelling. Even when you have small childern don't miss the opportunity to spend at least half a day at one of Menorcas beautfiful virgin beaches. A few have been made accessible by car and a short walk, wihout disturbing their natural prisitine state. You won't regret it! For the romantically and adventurously inclined there are many remote beaches only accessible on foot, where often you will find them completely deserted or just a few like minded people. And beacuse there are more beaches (120+) than on Majorca and Ibizia combined even in high summer you won't be fighting for your 2m2!

Menorcas longest sandy beach is the 2 km long Playa de Son Bou in the middle of the south coast. However, the real jewells of Menorcas beaches are the many smaller white sandy beaches enclosed in stunning and protective natural bays on the north and south coasts. The so called virgin beaches "calas virgenes" are amongt some of the most beautiful beaches you will find anywhere within a three hour flight from home. Often remote, deliberately not sign posted - a touch of paradise close to home. There is no such thing as a private beach in Menorca . They are all owned by the state and can be used by the public. Actually the entire coast line up to 6 meters in is public property. However some of the coast line and remote beaches are only accessible by going through private land. You should respect this and keep to the tracks. Some land owners charge a small fee and restrict the visitor numbers which keeps the beaches in their pristine state. Dress appropriately and shut gates behind you. Respectful visitors are never turned away.

For those who prefer resort oriented beaches with complete tourist facilities Menorca can also offer some of the best with daily cleaning and a range of water sports and beach side bars and restaurants.

Topless sun bathing is usual on most beaches. There are no official nudist beaches on the island however the following locations are popular choices. Most frequented is Binigaus beach - in the south west of Santo Tomas. Easily reachable and there is a car park at Santo Tomas beach. Walk west along the Santo Tomas beach In addition Cala Macarelleta, Cala Trebalúger or Cala Es Bots

Highly Recommended Beaches:

Virgin Beaches

Cala Mitjana

On the south coast close to Cala Galdana. One of our favourite beaches and one of the first of the virgin beaches to be made accessible via car. This is perhaps the ideal first experience (perfect for small children too) of Menorcas "calas virgenes".

There are two caves to explore. A smaller one close to the beach with it's own little beach inside. Further around, about a 20 meter swim, is a very large cave (see picture) perfect for snorkelling.

In the older days this used to be a 40 min . walk on unsigned paths through pine forests. You can still do this today from Cala Galdana. The Cala is 3 min drive from Cala Galdana with its own beautiful tourist beach and watersports centers, so you can combine the two. No excuses get there!

Cala Algaiarens

On the north coast just east of Cala Morell is a robinson crusoe style beach set in a grand bay. The way is over private land and cars must be parked some distance away. No services available. An der Nordküste östlich der Cala Morell, ein kleiner, »robinsonadischer« Sandstrand in einer grandiosen Bucht. Der Weg führt über ein Privatgelände, Autos müssen in einiger Entfernung geparkt werden. Keine Serviceeinrichtungen.

Cala Macarella

On the south coast set in a grandiose horseshoe shaped bay with imposing cliffs. Fringed with Pine forests for when you want to escape the sun or take a stroll. There is a car park set back from the beach. Also reachable via a path from Cala Galdana ( 30 Mins.) A small bar and toilet facility is available

Cala Pregonda

On the north coast. Red sandy beach set in an imposing bay. Parking for cars at the nearby Playa de Binimel-lá, then at foot path to Cala Pregonda.

Cala'n Turqueta

On the south coast. 20 min walk from dedicated car park. Can sometimes get crowered due to the many visiting boat tours. Fabulous in the early morning hours. No facilities.
